I saw only the first of these two volumes, but assume that the pattern is the same for the second volume. In the story of each of our national parks -- all 26 of them -- he gives the historical background, the discovery, the stories of the men who shared in their development. The scientific aspects, the beauty and grandeur, the different qualities that make them important as aspects of our country, of our thought and way of life -- all are treated individually, so that there is no sense of repetition as one reads of one park after the other. A tremendous number of school children visit these parks each year; these books should be of vital interest to them, and to the adults accompanying them. They should serve also as supplementary reading for geography. Public libraries school libraries.
