HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS AND ALIENATE PEOPLE

This is a slapstick parody of the Dale Carnegie book -- ideally designed for that purpose. The first half of the book mimics him, chapter for chapter -- then comes some deviation which saves the book from cheapness. The Author defines himself as Head of the Institute for Human Relations up to a Certain Point, which decreases as time goes on. Chapter heads indicate the flavor:- How To Get The Most Out Of This Book, Why It Was Written. How To Make People Dislike You, How To Make A Poor First Impression. How to Offend Your Hostess, etc., all exemplified by case histories and labelled with slogans, such as ""If you can't bear a person bore him."" The humor is practical but blatant, all sorts of puns and all-too-mediocre jokes. The title will make the anti-Dale Carnegies rush for it. Too bad Thurber didn't do it.
