THE BOOK OF BOOKS: A Treasury of Great Bible Fiction

The subtitle is misleading in two ways: first, the Blackers have drawn on authors with very varied degrees of mastery and talent, and secondly, the stories presented here refer only to the Old Testament. With these qualifications in mind, they have collected ""imaginatively reconstructed"" stories based on the Bible, in works by a number of foreign and American authors, many well known, some less known. Among them: Frank Slaughter, Thomas Mann, Sholem Asch, Robert Nathan, Franz Werfel, Robert Graves, Edith Simon, David Garnett, Louis Untermeyer, etc., etc.
