Less froth than the usual romance but not the most absorbing book you've ever read. The authors weave a tain oF those who love France, by birth or by adoption, in the stories of Louise, of French-Scotch parentage, who loved a Frenchman tied to an insane wife, and bore his daughter. When Camille was killed before he could marry her, she returned to England to live with relatives. There she found Gustave, who had lost all to the Germans and found in Louise the roots of a new love and a new faith, and brought new life to her. She joined the Free French to help where she could, and marries Gustave, only to lose him again on special mission. Before despair becomes fixed, she learns that he is alive, and they are reunited, in joy of the child to come and the hope for the future of France....So-so.
