In the aftermath of England’s truce with Robert the Bruce, Moiread MacAlasdair has returned to her home after two decades of war. So she is surprised to discover, only hours after her return, that her family has volunteered her for yet another long journey, during which she'll act as escort and bodyguard to Madoc of Avondos as he sets out on a mission to magically prepare his land and his fellow Welshmen for the future. With Moiread disguised as Madoc’s manservant, the pair crosses Britain, encountering friends and foes in their world and others. Neither is interested in a long-term relationship, but they won’t say no to some casual companionship. As their travels put them closer to the source of their danger, they grow closer until neither can deny a connection that goes beyond the physical. Not even Moiread’s well-crafted glamour in the role of the manservant Michael can hinder Madoc’s growing fascination; instead, it’s just another of her faces, much like her dragon form. In the second book of her Dawn of the Highland Dragon series, Cooper (Highland Dragon Warrior, 2017, etc.) continues the vivid worldbuilding and perfect partnerships she displayed in the first.
