MANNERS NOW AND THEN

This is a new and interesting approach to the problem of etiquette. Instead of taking one facet after another of good manners and good form, the authors have dug out of history, ancient and modern, the sources of custom and usage. The philosophy of good manners and their roots in expediency make the actual data on hows and why specific but not too obviously the end and aim of the book. The comic sketches by Fred Cooper do not, I feel, strike quite the right note.
