KIRKUS REVIEW

The reteller of the stories in The Golden Stag (1962, p. 561, J-159) does not exhibit much talent here; she narrates these tales in bland, monotonous sentences. Missing here is a sense of mystery-- of power. The cardboard figures walk stiff-legged, and only go through the motions of excitement, wonder, etc. Compared to other lands of fantasy, the ones in these pages are impoverished.
