KIRKUS REVIEW

The Dalmatian coast as the scene for a foreign-flavored novel written by a novelist and playwright. Simple, occasionally poignant record of isolated and idealistic resistance to Fascism on the part of the youth of the town of Spalato. Steve has left his island home for school, and became the leader of the younger generation, and with Irina, the girl he loved, organized group action against the Italian Pist control of the town through the medium of the school paper. Finally, following the suspension of the paper, Steve is arrested, but Irina helps him escape to jin the guerilla in the mountains. Staunch, sincerely motivated, but somehow act p an American tastes.
