. . . And who would, when the friend gets all the toys and favors and surpasses her hostess at drawing, swinging high and dressing for outdoors? Preschoolers will recognize their own frustrations in Sherman's amusingly empathic complaints and his snappy, expressive cartoons in reds and violets -- and it's our guess that the concluding hint of retaliation (""I do not like it when my friend comes to visit, but I like my friend, and tomorrow I get to visit her"") is just the sort of wicked consolation they're looking for.
