BIRD FOR PETER

Obsessed with his pet, a foundling fledgling road runner, 12-year-old Peter Corbie fails at school and at home. Home is the farm of his grandparents ear Tucson, Arizona where he had been sent to recuperate from a bout of pneumonia. After finding the small bird, he can think of nothing else -- chores and school-work are neglected. Grandpa, an old railroading man, puts him back on the rails with a thump. Runner, the bird, matures and does what comes naturally -- he runs ff. Peter matures a little, too. Easy reading, simple story, obvious moral, eady audience
