The creative spirit and devotion to truth which inform the scientist are identical to all those forces- whether in sociology, art or philosophy- which make for human progress and which, in themselves, comprise everything of value in the life of man. Science, properly understood, is the reverse of the chill, metallic spectre that haunts the public mind. In these slim pages, Bronowski demonstrates his thesis with love, sensitivity and logic.
