A story of Amherst's siege of Louisberg pays tribute to his brave and deft strategy in the operation, and follows the part played in it by Ned Adams, a Boston boy, who became an ensign with Amherst's forces. Ned meets Amherst in England after he has been shanghaied and taken there aboard a privateer. His return with him leads to Louisberg and the siege, during which Ned enters the city and is able with what he learns to help win the day. Tactics cum trouble cum triumph move at a good clip through historical fiction of the winning side.
