KIRKUS REVIEW

A warm tale of a life he loves, this record of actor, director, playwright, proud and happy husband and father. Son of Irish parents, never well to do, he knew poverty, unemployment, pennyscrimping, was forced into odd jobs, and finally broke away to tour with one night stands and start his theatrical education. He learned to be a real trouper; an early marriage brought his wife on to the stage too; his two children grew up in the theatre. Big time in vaudeville; ventures into playwriting, into movies, into acting and directing -- and a touch of radio. It's nicely done.
