The Reed children's cats are accused of murdering the VanPelt children's guinea pig. Although circumstantial evidence points to their guilt, Harry Reed is determined to find the truth. How he goes about hunting clues, questioning likely witnesses and suspects and applying lawyer's logic climax in an authentic courtroom trial with all the fanfare. Comic elements are overshadowed by gruesome ones -- examining the guinea pig's skin -- demanding the death sentence for the guilty party, and what might have been a bit of clever fun is reduced to sheer nonsense with the introduction of adult participants.
