KIRKUS REVIEW

For those interested in the technical aspects of under-water exploration, this is a very thorough treatment by a qualified scientist. After posing the problems involved in descending beneath the surface -- such as water pressure and lack of oxygen -- the author provides a detailed history of the deep sea diver's dress and of large-scale exploratory models from the ancient diving bolls to the modern submarine and the aluminaut, which is now under construction. The text is detailed and lucid. Precise, diagrammatic drawings by Leslie Haywood.
