This is an excellent first book, not for children, but for adults and teen age boys and girls, who want to go into photography as amateurs, with a more or less professional approach. The author has been successful in presenting the scientific factual explanation of focus and lens etc. He discusses the theory and the practice of photography, step by step; the type of equipment and the reasons for choice, problems of timing, exposure, composition, light and so on. Indoor photography, outdoor photography, portraiture, landscapes, buildings, details, trick photography, color photography movies. Then there is an excellent section on darkroom work, with valuable charts and a laboratory manual. The text is excellent. The illustrations, while useful, have no special distinction in reproduction.
