PAUL TILLICH -- An Appraisal

This volume adds one more to The Library of Philosophy and Theology, published in England by the SCM Press. The author studied with Tillich at Union, and was called by him his ""logical critic"". The theological methodology of Tillich is scrutinized, and then Tillich's thought as it bears upon such central theological problems as The Doctrine of God and Revelation, Christology and Historical Criticism, The Meaning of the Incarnation, The Doctrine of Man, The Church, and History and the Kingdom of God. A significant appendix surveys Catholic criticism of Tillich. The author seems justified in his hope that he has not only ""introduced"" Tillich, but in doing so, has shown Tillich's significance for contemporary theology and has thrown ""light on some of the darker places of the System"". The book is a judicious contribution to the increasing literature of critical studies of this foremost theological thinker of our time.
