ANTHONY TRANT by J. Hyatt Downing

ANTHONY TRANT

By

Publisher: Putnam

A continuation of but not dependent on Sioux City (1940) in which the fortunes of this Iowa town and Anthony Trant are again merged. The panic of 1893 forces Trant home again, and he takes his descent from the pinnacle of the boy-wonder none too well. However, he finds a new set of values, even to escape in manual labor in a brickyard. As the town picks up again, so do Trant's fortunes, with knowledge learned in the hard way, that to help others he must help himself. The story spans the years to the next generation, when Steve, his son, embittered by the first world war, crashes to disaster, boom and disaster again. A solid picture of a town and its people.
