Blackmail -- murder -- double dealing on a real estate venture and tenuous evidence are sufficient to start Silas Booth off on another apparently wild goose chase, minus specific clients, fees or what have you -- and in opposition to the Los Angeles police. He gets his conviction on a neatly staged (but not wholly plausible) framed entrance of the murderer at the scene of the crime. Doubtful ethics and 2nd rate suspense.
