The famous French Catholic philosopher and theologian interprets the downfall of France with tempered objectivity. He analyzes the causes, -- politico-social, when ""the leftists failed democracy, and the rightists failed France""; he speaks at length of the people, a people who were politically rather than morally demoralized, a controversial point; the armistice and the great error of Petain's refusal to accept the British offer of union; France today, with the many problems generated by the Vichy or London affiliations. At the close he expresses his hopes for the regeneration of France, believing that temporal faith in too deep seated in every Frenchman to be extinguished by German domination. Limited market, I should say, but sure of that market that knows his name.
