Simply but movingly told, this is the story of a twelve year old's attempt at vengeance. When drought drove a thirst crazed buffalo on to the South African farm, Jamie's father was gored to death. The boy vowed to hunt down the government-protected animal. Jamie's only help came from the native quarter and the boy's frustration as well as his dizzying sense of the fate is well communicated in the short novel.
