KIRKUS REVIEW

Conroy's first novel, The Disinherited, aroused a good deal of discussion. His theme -- the struggle of the masses toward freedom -- is presented from a different angle in this new book. Here is the story of two half brothers, of their different background, training, approach to life. One, an aesthete, the other, a hard boiled worker -- and both forced into a realization of common problems, common need for readjustment, in the stress of depression years. Not pleasant reading -- he calls a spade a shovel -- watch your market.
