By the author of The Blue Max, this comic spy novel again demonstrates Hunter's knack for offbeat heroes. In that book, the protagonist was a young, alcoholic WW I German battle ace who achieved his high record of kills by sabotaging his own squadron. The present lead is a genial, wisecracking Jack-Lemmon-styled, swinging Army intelligence officer in Heidelberg... who has sold out to the Reds. Not only that, his own outfit knows it has a leak in their system and the central part of the story is how our secret swinger sets up a patsy to cover his own guilt. Guilt? he doesn't have an ounce of it, even when he has his mistress rubbed out for the Cause-- his cause. In Hunter's reverse-Alger universe, he wins out and gets promoted.... Much fun.
