POEMS OF STEPHEN CRANE

By

Publisher: Crowell

Young admirers of Stephen Crane's Red Badge of Courage will recognize in this brief collection the strength of the author as poet. Although he received inspiration from Emily Dickinson's poems, he speaks with towering, sometimes bitter, words which are completely his own. He approached the great themes: man's search for truth; the irony of war; etc. A young audience will view Crane as a modern in many ways, although he wrote at the close of the 19th century, for he did not rely on the adornments of verse or rhyme common to the time.
