Big Jack Nicklaus, the Teutonic terror of the fairway, has been vying with Arnold Palmer for the Swinger of the Century Award in golf. This is a busy, chatty life story with enough tips to create a new high in golf widows. Of course you have to know something about the course when interpreting remarks--about Charley Coe for example--""His typical tee-shot is rifled on a fairly low trajectory with a right to left draw that gives the ball quite a bit of a run."" Nicklaus takes you through all his tournaments and, amazingly, how he played the win-or-lose shots. His discussion of other styles and techniques is undoubtedly helped by the perceptive eye of Herbert Warren Wind, a golf writer for many years. It's been seven years of tourney triumphs and to help relieve tee-dium, read the chapters on stance, swing, grip and green hints. Not to mention the run-down on the major courses and their specific problems. Upmanship for the golfer and probably a seller-out in a game where the prizes have increased from $100,000 to $4,500,000 in five years.
