More hearty hilarity from the author of The Countess to Boot, and enthusiasts will like equally well the zany activities of Julie and Charlie, camera-typewriter team, and naive hermit, Hylobates Hoolock, who pulled a fifteen year Walden in New England woods. Sent by their magazine Birdseye (alias Time) to bring Hylobates back, alive and bearded, they miss out on the beard but induce him to come back to New York, Misfortunes follow, including a bubonic plague charge, an editor's suspicion that Hylobates is a boax, Julie's involvement with the hermit and split with Charlie, and finally Hylobates return to New England and the schoolteacher who was waiting for him. More than a bit cockeyed, but perhaps this particular -- sort of Thornesmithania is needed as an antidote today. Personally, I don't think it measures up to The Countess to Boot.
