THE UNDERGROUND GARDENER by Jack Kramer

THE UNDERGROUND GARDENER

Assuming you have a little land and about $400, you can have a pit garden with flowers and vegetables growing through the year. A variation of a greenhouse, a pit garden is set four to five feet into the ground, has a dirt floor and glass ceiling, and faces south to maximize heat absorption. All the particulars of drainage, ventilation, and temperature control are mentioned as are tips on growing a variety of vegetables, perennials and annuals, herbs, mushrooms, even small trees. Of marginal interest despite Kramer's assurances of simplicity and the temptation of fresh, low-budget produce.
