THE PIT N' POT GROWERS BOOK

A brief idea book for raising home/patio plants via seeds and grafts from kitchen fare, houseplants and wild specimens. The author leads off with general remarks and facts about plant growth, origins, names, types of sowing and starting mixtures, containers, light and moisture, pests, etc. -- a quick scan rather than substance -- and as in Kramer's other gardening books the illustrations provide lure, directions and distractions. Three chapters deal with specific projects involving fruit seeds and pits, wild and house plants, but the written instruction is often fuzzy: to prepare an avocado pit, ""Cut a thin section from the apex and base. . . ."" How thin? How does one read the state of the pit's germination? Of marginal use, although Kramer's books continue to sell well.
