YOUNG PUERTO RICO

The text of this book is an encyclopedia- like presentation, in brief, of the history, geography, lopography, industry, agriculture, education and amusements of Puerto Rico. The Junior High School or even High School student would probably be glad to have it to use as a reference book if he were doing a school report on Puerto Rico, but it has little about it which would attend the independent reader. This is especially disappointing as children's literature on Puerto Rico is something which is really needed. The photographs, like the text are . The main emphasis of the book is that Puerto Rican children are just like U.S. children except in a few ways which they can't help because their background is different. I'm sure our young readers would much rather know more about the differences, i.e. the excitement of Puerto Rico and its people.
