THE PLAINSMEN

These nine short stories were chosen especially for younger readers. Each one, without exception, is an excellent example of the storyteller's art. Whether it's finding out why Cooter James talks to his coffee pot, or riding along with orporal Buckner on the army's big kitty cat hunt or watching Jeremy Rodock train and protect his magnificent horses, the reader is aware of a master hand at work. Whether the story winds up with a chuckle or reveals some poignant aspect of a plainsman's life, this collection carries the reader to the Old West as it must have been.
