In his middle teens, Dick Murdock who was born on Venus and whose father founded the Cosmic Ray Research Institute, goes to the Moon to work at an observatory with his father. In the process he meets up with space pirates who operate with a hypnotizing creation called the Basilisk- captures them and then changes his mind about a strictly astronomical career to become a pirate catcher instead.
