A presidential candidate pulls out of the race when it diminishes his performance on the playing field. College junior Chuch Denny has a reputation to uphold and a responsibility to the team -- which he fumbles when campaign tensions accumulate. The fullback has the popularity (the most important qualification, according to his manager), even though an anti-athlete group makes nasty noises. Benched for bad playing and a bum ankle, he regains his perspective, withdraws from the political arena and gets back into the right game in time to lead the team to a crucial victory. Plenty of plays for the boys but the collegiate experience is suspect: no homework, one class, only football and political conversations.
