I had a paintbox. . . I sat down and painted peace."" That's just what these Israeli school-children (a few are Arab) did and the result is a rainbow of visions, everything from multicolored doves and tanks shooting flowers to one darkly menacing painting of soldiers embracing on a bloody battlefield. The poems, perhaps because they too often dwell on PEACE as an abstract concept, rather than on the warfare these children know firsthand, carry considerably less impact. Literary values aside, a dramatically designed good will gesture.
