THE BOOK OF JUDGES

Following King James, the Book of Judges amplified by seventeen full color illustrations. The paper is colored to simulate the texture of parchment, and the dramatically posed paintings, alert to\ B.C. modes of dress, combine a sense of antiquity with very modern touches. The illustrator represents some of the more familiar incidents: Jael and Sisera, the turning out of Jephthah, the Samson scenes. This is one of the better Old Testament books to read aloud generally because the tiresome genealogies and ritual catalogues that dominate others are scarce and there is continuity in the relatively brief chronicle; nevertheless it is unlikely as a popular selection.
