KIRKUS REVIEW

Although already this is somewhat dated (his attitude towards Soviet Russia as a fellow of Nazi Germany, towards free Greece etc.) it is an interesting reflection of how thoughtful, educated Frenchmen, who are still not intellectuals, are thinking today, how they analyze their own country and people, before, during and after the brief span of war. He bears witness to supreme confidence that the French are revolutionaries by instinct and will not long be slaves. Certain chapters contain vivid bit of description of what happened in France.
