KIRKUS REVIEW

This somewhat idiosyncratic (the author admits it) but solid study finds the sources of classical Greek culture in the union of the essentially feminine character of Minoan Crete with the masculine character of Mycenaean Greece. Miss Hawkes, once archaeological correspondent for the Observer and the Sunday Times, has also written widely in this field.
