THE ANGER BUSTING WORKBOOK

Simple, Powerful Techniques for Managing Anger and Saving Relationships

by James A. Baker

Pub Date: Nov. 15th, 2005
ISBN: 1-886298-19-X

Step-by-step anger management.

Baker, a corporate training expert specializing in conflict resolution, provides a clean, albeit somewhat simplified, strategy for conquering anger that doesn’t require endless analysis of underlying factors. This workbook of principles and exercises helps “rageaholics” apply the ideas expressed in Newton Hightower’s Anger Busting 101 (2002). First, Baker discusses the physiological processes and learned behaviors that often cascade into anger addiction, and then he demonstrates how to abstain from angry outbursts: Learn to shut up, to lose, to be wrong, to be humble and to practice forgiveness. He also recommends keeping a log of specific anger incidents, in order to recognize the impetus and conquer it next time. He clarifies how to practice kindness, empathy, graciousness and service. Despite offering a detailed game plan and hundreds of tips, activities and worksheets, Baker highly recommends anger-management therapy–useful advice considering that this workbook is by no means a panacea. For those who may be enabling the angry, Part II addresses how to attract the anger addict’s attention, identifies triggering behaviors and demonstrates practical steps for starting the recovery process.

Anger may be a part of life, but excessive rage is not. Baker is a capable guide to overcoming the anger habit.
