A long autobiography of a man whose name has not been sufficiently in the public eye and whose experiences have not been of sufficiently distinctive value to warrant putting them into book form. Or so it seems to this reader. James Barnes fought in two wars, worked on two magazines, accompanied Pulitzer on his yacht during an extended cruise, lectured on Africa, wrote boys' books, was Commanding Officer of the United States School of Aerial Photography at Rochester in 1918. Princeton -- good clubs -- contacts with men of accomplishment -- but then a great many others can say the same. Possibly the book will be wanted by these who know him, or who know people mentioned in the pages of the book. But the general public is apt to find it pretty dull reading.
