A nice book- a nice gift item- this is an extensively illustrated picture history of the old West. Cattle raising, and the beef bonanza, town growths, Indian wars, the colorful heroes are described in Dee Brown's text which runs nicely along with the pictures- many drawings, many daguerreotypes from full length portraits of men like Buffalo Bill to the old standard chuck wagon, and excellent fruit of Martin Schmitt's research. Not in chronological order but grouped more by activity and area, the material ranges from the importation of the first Andalusian heifers in 1521 to the beginning of the 20th century and the end of the old ""Trail Driving Days."" For the western lore enthusiast.
