RICH AND FAMOUS: The Further Adventures of George Stable

George Stable has broken The Teddy Bear Habit (1966), but nine years later he's still only thirteen and still trying to break into show biz. With the big break in sight at last, George is temporarily sent to live with his stuck-up cousin Sinclair up in Pawling, so he has to sneak back to New York for the auditions. There he submits reluctantly to the PR mens' campaign to transform him into George Stable, The Boy Next Door. Of course on his own Greenwich Village turf, George is a typical boy next door and his bemused reflections on the fakery of commercial rock are easy to go along with. Balance this against a dumb, hackneyed plot twist in which George is turned into an unwitting cocaine runner and an even less witting overnight hero. . . . One can't help wishing George had grown up more, but his ability to keep his head among all these big business crazies will still win him a place on the charts.
