THE WILD WILD WEST by James Daugherty

THE WILD WILD WEST

By

Publisher: McKay

There's always a bit of a problem in placing Daugherty. Some children like his work, with its bold mural technique, its caricature quality. Some need adult interpretation to take it at all. He was at his best in his Daniel Boone, and this has some of that quality- wholly masculine, and with the essential spirit of frontier. In the verse accompanying the pictures he touches on all the orthodox and conventional trappings of the ""Wild wild west"",- Indians, barbecues, steamboat days, buffalo, prairie fire, overland stage, California gold, pony express, cattlemen, cowboys, frontier settlers, etc. Glorified and glamorized- with no attempt at realism, but it has a certain sweep and grandeur. The binding paper and board- seems somewhat perishable.
