KIRKUS REVIEW

This is a cozy and friendly story about children in Switzerland, and the trials and triumphs of a travelling theatrical troupe. Unjustly accused of theft, the troupe is refused a permit to perform in the little town of Waldau, and faces starvation. The children of the town come to a warm-hearted rescue. A well-sustained mystery, a bit of melodrama, plus lively and convincing plot and characters combine to make this the kind of story children adore. It has a moral, too, but that doesn't spoil it. The drawings, by Barbara Cooney, are lively and humorous. The jacket is green and pink and enchanting.
