This is a fine book, which is unreservedly recommended to all observers sport. The Giants are a colorful ball team, black and blue when they overtake catastrophe, but with the hue and odor of roses when they win. The club, its players -- their tears and laughter -- are vividly and competently brought to life. The transfer of the Giants and Dodgers from New York to the Coast was a move of real significance -- leading to the expansion of the major leagues, a politico-economic business thoroughly and entertainingly covered. This objective and minently professional book is clearly superior to My Giants, by Hodges and Hirshberg (see p. 270). It profits from a superb, crackling introduction by erb Caen.
