YOUR NAVY NOW

By

Publisher: Oxford

Teens and up for this excellent basic background book on the composition of the navy. Each type of ship -- its function, appearance, equipment, the training of men and officers. There's a brief introductory section on the history of our Navy, its ups and downs since its beginnings in the American Revolution, and the lessons of Pearl Harbor and the early engagements of the Second World War. Rearmament -- new equipment -- fire control -- anti-aircraft protection -- the big guns -- greater mverability, etc. Battlewagons, heavy cruisers, ""flat tops"", destroyers, "" T."" boats, submarines, escort vessels, working ships, and ""navy wings"". An excellent text -- concise -- compact -- clear, with good photographic illustrations. One could wish for a little more pictorial to help identification (silhouettes, etc.), but this is a good first book of general coverage. liography suggests further study.
