ESCAPE FROM VERMONT

Amusing homespun memories of a boyhood in Vermont, terrorized by a stingy Yankee grandfather, written with wit and sophistication by an adult looking back. Grandfather was the rich, tight-fisted patriarch of a huge farmhouse filled with daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, nephews -- and grandmother, with whom grandfather exchanged no words. Grandfather ruled the tribe with a lusty, mean disposition and the threat of disinheritance. Gay, colorful, anecdotal, well written.
