KIRKUS REVIEW

A bland potboiler of the occult, featuring a none-too-savvy private eye named Casey blundering (or getting blundered) into a ""covention"" of magicians. Some unhealthy-looking deaths have been occurring, among them that of ""white"" magician Prospero, the group's founder, and Casey finds himself caught up in the affairs of Prospero's daughter Ariel and mathematical colleague Uriel, who are trying to prevent a takeover by the forces of ""black"" magic led by the dapper and sinister Solomon Magus. A modest complement of witches' sabbaths, Black Masses, and offerings of infants' blood beefs up a somewhat undernourished plot.
