LETTERS OF THE PRINCE CONSORT 1831-1861

This collection includes over 100 letters, hitherto unpublished, from Albert to members of the Prussian Royal Family, during the workout of the plans for the Confederation of the German States, making this book historically important. But the most interesting letters are the charming and very human ones written to Victoria during their engagement. Taken as a whole the book is a commentary on the years in England and in Europe generally, and shows the Prince Cansort as having had more than an observer's part in European politics of his times. A more intimate picture of the man himself than is generally given by letters included in other volumes. Arranged chronologically. A distinct contribution to the literature of the Victorian period.
