Rogers has a knack of coming out with a book at the psychological moment. Remember America Weighs Her Gold? Here is no crack brained economist, but a sane, liberal teacher who believes in capitalism, and strives to find a way to cure his sick patient. He writes vividly and creates a living interest in his study of capitalism's crisis. Essentially an optimist, he pleads for an armistice between government and business. He feels that elasticity of prices is necessary, that a national budget should be looked upon as a problem over a span of years, not as an annual condition, he emphasizes the importance of freedom in monetary policies, believes that hoarding of profits reduces purchasing power, and accepts the necessity of government spending. A sane compromise position which recognizes the needs of both sides.
