FROM LEW ALCINDOR TO KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR

This updating of the sports biography first published in 1972 takes up Kareem's subsequent up-and-down years with the Milwaukee Bucks--when, as Wilt Chamberlain had before him, ""Kareem Abdul-Jabbar found himself a champion on a non-champion team."" Later there's an injury, a divorce (""the pressures of being the wife of a professional athlete had been too much for Habiba""), a move to the then-drooping Los Angeles Lakers, outstanding individual performances (although sometimes it was only ""Kareem against the other team""), and in 1977 a rare, lifetime contract with the Lakers. It's all smoothly chronicled, at the news-clipping level but without effusive puffery.
