BONNY'S BIG DAY

This is the fourth of Herriot's heartwarming animal stories to be retold in a simpler version and issued as a picture book. Here, Herriot points out to an old farmer, John--who has kept a couple of cart horses a dozen years beyond their working life--that he has a possible entry in a local pet contest; scornful at first, John spruces one of them up with ribbons and brass harness to win the first prize. Brown's lavish double spreads affectionately evoke the Yorkshire countryside and its inhabitants.
